When you create a space on demokratian, you are not renting a simple voting tool. You are creating a dedicated portal for your organization: complete with its visual identity, editorial content, custom homepage, and published elections as standalone pages. All without requiring an IT technician or a separate Content Management System.
More than a matter of colors
The article on visual customization covers the design layer: colors, logo, typography, custom domain. But a platform's identity is built on more than just button colors. It is built on what you publish: your organization's messaging, how it presents its processes, and the pages members access while navigating the space.
demokratian includes an integrated Content Management System. It is not WordPress, nor does it need to be: it provides exactly what is required to make the space effective as your organization's portal, without the overhead of managing another platform.
News and announcements
The news module allows publishing announcements, notices, official minutes, or any informational content aimed at members. Each news post includes:
- Title and body with a rich text editor
- Cover image and additional image gallery
- Category (for organization and filtering)
- SEO-friendly, clean custom URL
- Active/inactive status (draft content and publish on demand)
- Multilingual support: publish the same announcement across all supported languages
Members access the news section via the navigation menu. The latest posts can also automatically display on the homepage.
Custom pages
In addition to news, you can create standalone pages with custom URLs. These are ideal for persistent content that members need to reference: about us, election procedures, bylaws, or contact information.
Each page has its own address (e.g., /en/about-us), which can be linked from anywhere in the space — navigation menus, news articles, or election call emails. Content is managed using the same rich text editor as news, supporting formatted text and images.
The system differentiates between standard pages (freely created pages) and legal pages (privacy policy, legal notice, terms of service). Legal pages feature automatic versioning: publishing a new version automatically archives the previous one. Essential for regulatory compliance requirements.
The homepage is yours
Your space's homepage is not a static template. It consists of modular blocks that can be activated, disabled, and reordered directly from the admin dashboard:
- Header: static hero image or rotating carousel with a call-to-action button. Button text and links are customizable per language.
- Text block: customizable content section — ideal for introducing the organization or explaining voting procedures to new members.
- News block: automatically displays the latest published announcements.
- Elections blocks: highlights open or published elections so members can access them immediately upon entry.
- Marketing blocks: additional custom content sections to highlight relevant organizational information.
The result is a functional landing page combining institutional communication with direct access to active elections, requiring no external web development.
Published elections: a dedicated page per process
This is one of the most practical features for organizations seeking transparency with their membership: you can generate a public page for every election, accessible without requiring user login.
Each published election page features:
- Custom introductory text (context, timeline, voter eligibility)
- Dedicated header banner (or default space header)
- Ballot choices (configurable: can be displayed or hidden)
- Election results once polls close (also configurable)
- Clean custom URL: /en/elections/board-of-directors-2026
- Page view counter
You can share this link on social media, in member newsletters, or in official election notices. Members can review the process details and, if authenticated, proceed directly to cast their ballot.
Everything managed from the dashboard without code
All these features — news, pages, modular homepage, published elections — are managed directly from the demokratian admin dashboard. No server access is required, no template editing, and no FTP file uploads.
Module access levels are governed by role-based access control: a communications manager can be assigned rights to publish news and pages without access to election administration. Or a secretary can be granted full administrative rights. Permissions are granular and configurable per role.
Combining visual branding (colors, logo, custom domain) with content management (news, pages, homepage layout) turns demokratian into more than a voting tool: it serves as your organization's digital portal with natively integrated electronic voting.
