Preferential voting

To elect several positions at once, with the single transferable vote system and full details of each round of the tally count. Available from the Starter plan.

Scrutineers for each candidate list

Each slate can appoint someone to oversee the process from their own read‑only portal. Available from the Starter plan.

Minutes that anyone can verify

Any member can verify the result with the minutes code, without needing anyone’s permission.

How it works

A typical case: renewal of the governing council with three slates

  1. Import the members’ register from a CSV or Excel file.
  2. Each slate appoints its election monitors, who follow the Vote from their portal.
  3. Members rank the candidates by preference and the single transferable vote tally count allocates the seats.
  4. When it closes, the sealed minutes show each round and any member can verify them.

Frequently asked questions

What people usually ask before getting started.

Is it suitable for both the general meeting and the governing council?

Yes, and also for any other vote in the cooperative. Each vote is independent: in the same meeting you can open approval of the accounts, renewal of the board and any other item on the agenda.

What if there are different types of members with different voting weights?

That is also possible. If you have worker members, consumer members or other categories with different voting weights, each category can vote with its own weight. Weighted voting is available on the Professional plan.

Is the result legally valid?

Demokratian provides the technical tool and verifiable minutes. The validity of the process depends on the co‑operative law that applies to you and your articles: review this with your advisers before calling the meeting.

Can people also vote in person?

Yes. You can set up an in‑person polling station with a ballot box and its votes are added to the same tally count, with its own close.
